FLAC calls for consistent and fair decisions in Social Welfare

27 October 2010

FLAC made a presentation to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection on Wednesday, 27 October.

The Committee examined the Habitual Residence Condition which is a set of rules applied to determine whether a person qualifies for certain social welfare payments.

FLAC, along with other NGOs, voiced concerns over the misapplication of the Habitual Residence Condition which is causing hardship for groups who are already at risk of poverty and social exclusion.

FLAC's detailed submission on the HRC to the Committee, complete with recommendations, is available here.

FLAC has also produced a factsheet which explains the Habitual Residence Condition. It is available to download here.
