Major conference on debt law reform in November

The Law Reform Commission is holding its 2009 Annual Conference on 18 November. The theme of this year's conference is 'Reforming the Law on Personal Debt' and it will be opened by the Minister of for Justice Equality and Law Reform, Dermot Ahern.

Among the speakers is FLAC's Paul Joyce, who has done extensive research and work in the area of debt law reform. He will be speaking on the issue of 'Consumer debt in Irish society'. Also addressing the event are Financial Regulator Mary O'Dea, Michael Culloty of MABS, Mrs Justice Catherine McGuinness and Patricia Rickard-Clarke of the LRC.

Three international speakers will feature in the afternoon: Prof Iain Ramsay of Kent Law School, UK; Marc Rothemund of the Centre for European Policy Studies in the European Credit Research Institute, Brussels; and Dr David Capper from the School of Law at Queen's University Belfast.
