Seminar: Procedural Obstacles to PILL

A series of seminars in Spring 2006 was intended to provoke discussion around Public Interest Law and Litigation (PILL) in Ireland. It followed a major conference on PILL in October 2005 that brought together lawyers, NGOs and activists for contributions from people involved in PILL, in Ireland and further afield. A printed Proceedings from this conference are available as well as a DVD of the event.

This first seminar in a series of three focused on litigation and on the procedural obstacles to PILL and how they might be overcome. It covered issues such as class actions, locus standi, dealing with costs and protective costs orders. It aimed to identify the main procedural obstacles to PILL in this jurisdiction and formulate strategies for removing them. hree speakers presented papers on the various topics and the session was chaired by Michael Farrell, FLAC Senior Solicitor.
