PILA - Public Interest Law Alliance

PILA is a new project established in 2009 by FLAC. For further information on the work of PILA, please visit the temporary website. A new and comprehensive site will be launched in the coming months.

Aim and Objectives

The aim of PILA is to facilitate and promote the use of the law in the public interest for the advancement and protection of human rights for the benefit of the marginalised and disadvantaged.

Members of the Alliance

PILA seeks to be a vibrant community of individuals and organisations committed to using the law in various ways in the public interest and who quickly become aware of the work, agendas and resources of each other and work to maximum common effect.

PILN

Beginning with the Public Interest Law conference in October 2005, FLAC has been building on the interest and momentum for promoting law as a tool for social justice in Ireland. There is a clear need for a reference point or hub for Public Interest Law and Litigation activity. Thus the Public Interest Law Network (PILN) was established.

This involves an electronic resource in the form of a bulletin for members to share information on public interest law. PILA seeks to build on what was achieved through the network and consolidate the culture and practice of public interest law in Ireland. The PILN Bulletin is now known as the PILA Bulletin.

PILA Bulletin

Today the bulletin has a core group of some 500 individuals and organisations which continues to grow. A PILA Bulletin is emailed bimonthly, containing information on cases, developments and events in public interest law that might be of interest to members.
Until the new website is launched, you can continue to read the latest PILA Bulletins or view the archive of previous bulletins in the archive below.

Why receive the PILA bulletin?

Joining PILA will enable you to join legal practitioners, legal and non-legal NGOs, academics and other interested parties in receiving updates on the most current developments in the area of public interest law and litigation, such as legislative changes, jurisprudence and on-going campaigns both nationally and internationally as well as filling you in on conferences and events.
If you would like to sign up, please contact the PILA team at bulletin@pila.ie and we will be delighted to supply further information and/or add your name to the network
