Summary

Legal information leaflet providing basic information on making a will in Ireland (in PDF format) from March 2009. A separate leaflet is available on probate law which you may also find interesting.

A will is the only way of safeguarding the future of those whom you care for. When you die, your affairs must be settled. There are likely to be outstanding bills to be paid as well as property which needs to be distributed. Making a will simplifies all of this and allows you to decide who gets what, with minimum delay and hassle.

The leaflet covers why to make a will, how to make a legally valid will, what is an executor, what to include in a will, changing or making new wills, intestacy and distribution of estate, and tax issues.
