Structure
FLAC is governed by a Council elected each year by members at the AGM. The Council selects a Chairperson to speak on its behalf. It meets regularly to discuss high-level issues of the organisation.
FLAC is an Independent Law Centre. Independent law centres are not operated by government or any commercial interest. All independent law centres are non-profit voluntary bodies which are accountable to the community that they seek to serve. Solicitors who operate and are employed in Independent Law Centres are regulated by the Solicitors Acts 1954-2002 (Independent Law Centres) Regulations 2006 (SI 103/2006).
The organisation has a staff of eleven people, both part-time and full-time, headed up by the Director General. It also benefits from the work of a number of legal interns. The Volunteer and Centres Co-ordinator works with volunteer solicitors and barristers to provide legal information and basic advice throughout the nationwide network of Legal Advice Centres.
FLAC also works closely with a number of other organisations on issues of social justice and legal aid.
