How we are celebrating
On 25 April FLAC hosted a gathering of volunteers and supporters from across its history in Dublin's Mansion House. The event was addressed by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese (you can read the text of her speech). The event launched FLAC's latest report, Civil Legal Aid in Ireland: 40 Years On. It saw the unveiling of a new FLAC initiative to promote public interest law in Ireland, the PILA (Public Interest Law Alliance).

FLAC is hosting the third annual Dave Ellis Memorial Lecture on 1 December in the Law Society Of Ireland, with this year's lecture from Dr Maurice Hayes on the topic of 'Access to Justice'. The event will also feature the launch of FLAC's online archive of clips. You can listen to some of these clips below:

In 2008, the lecture featured a presentation from ACLU's Legal Director, Steve Shapiro, on 'The Evolving Human Rights Landscape in the United States'. You can view a slideshow of images from the evening below:
